Changing your Gatorlink Username
Generally speaking, Gatorlink usernames cannot be changed, except in certain extenuating circumstances:
- Instances of harassment or where/when required by law
- One's current username is or can be considered “offensive”
Additionally, you must be affiliated as a Student, TEAMS Staff, Faculty, or Emeritus Faculty member to qualify.
If you feel you meet one or more of these criteria, our suggestion is an Email Alias instead.
Requesting an Email Alias
What is an email alias?
- An email alias is a pointer that directs people to your Gatorlink mailbox without changing the username you use to log in.
- This allows people to email you at your new email address without effecting the back-end databases. You would continue to use your regular Gatorlink username and password to log in everywhere.
- In the above example: John Smith would still log in using gatorfan1, but people could email him at johnsmith@ufl.edu.
- To qualify for an email alias, you must have a documented legal name change and it's reflected within student records, the UF Directory, or government issued documentation (driver’s license, passport, etc.)
- Your former name would need to be a part of your current username. For example, “John Smith” does not qualify if the username is gatorfan1.
