HiPerGator

HiPerGator is the University of Florida's supercomputer. Use this service type for all issues and support requests for HiPerGator software applications, auxiliary services, hardware, job scheduler, storage, interfaces and access via ssh or web interfaces, data transfers, and other issues that do not fall within the scope of other service types below. Software requests include application and package installation on HiPerGator, help with individual installs, environments, workflows, management and hosting of reference data and so on.

Research Account and Resource Management

Depending on which credentials are used for authentication HiPerGator accounts can be classified as UF internal, InCommon federated, and external accounts. Internal and federated accounts use GatorLink or federated institutional credentials for authentication. A prospective HiPerGator user who doesn’t have UF GatorLink or an account with an institution that is a member of InCommon Federation must request an external GatorLink account. This also applies to current HiPerGator users who will be leaving UF if they will fall into the external user category when their GatorLink account expires.

Research Consulting and Training

Research Computing staff provide consulting services to research teams in order to enhance software, provide training, or meet other software needs.

Research Software Applications

Various options are available to UF faculty for gaining access, obtaining licenses, and executing various software applications in order to conduct in University business, each with special features to meet different use cases. Faculty may use as many of these options as necessary in the course of conducting their business. It is important to consider several factors in the selection of the storage type to be used.

ResShield (FISMA)

UF Research Shield (also called ResShield) was developed in order to protect research data that is classified as restricted data, which means that the data is governed by laws, regulations, and/or contracts. ResShield serves as a secure storage and processing center that can support university projects requiring a secure, FISMA compliant environment. The environment complies with the NIST 800-53 rev5 "moderate" classification. No new groups will be added to ResShield in the future. Please see HiPerGator or HiPerGator-RV (ResVault) for your protected research data needs.

ResVault (HIPAA)

HiPerGator-RV (ResVault) is a secure computing environment where scientists and collaborators can conduct research on restricted and confidential data. HiPrGator-RV (ResVault) is designed to run virtual machines that are secure and pre-approved with the capacity for large-scale data storage and computation. The environment is compliant with NIST 800-151 rev2 to handle Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) as required, for example, by Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) data.
